Zoox is an autonomous vehicle company building a fully driverless robotaxi designed for dense urban environments. Working alongside the lead UX researcher, I was embedded with the hardware and software teams, focused on understanding how first-time riders navigate the end-to-end experience — from hailing the vehicle through offboarding.
Each session combined eye-tracking data with in-depth interviews, and I led the full research pipeline: setting up equipment, editing footage, synthesizing behavioral observations, and distilling everything into findings decks shared with the product board.
At a time when autonomous rides were still a genuinely novel experience, every session surfaced something new that no one had documented before — and the insights directly shaped how both the physical vehicle and the in-app experience came together.
